Building Physics II (Bauphysik II)

Bachelor - 2nd semester - compulsory subject - 2 ECTS

Aims:

The aim of the module is to teach basic knowledge about the mentioned issues that are essential for design and construction. This knowledge will then be applied within the studio project, seeking for solutions which show building physics as an integrated part of the design and construction process. Focus of the module` Bauphysik 2` is the thermal heat balance of a building. Contents are the physical description of each balance therme and relevant cause variables as well as the derivation of calculation routines for the quantification of the heat requirement. Furthermore, basics about moisture transport in addition to computing procedures for a dampness-technically screening of components as well as basics in noise and fire protection.

  • mechanisms of heat transfer and heating energy balance
  • insulation of buildings:
heat losses through the building envelope, heat bridges, ventilation losses, air tightness of the building envelope
  • heat gains in the building: solar gains, sun protection, internal gains
  • moisture: moisture transport in materials, diffusion, condensation, Glaser-method
  • noise protection: aspects of sound transmission, material properties, appropriate constructions

Rotation of Module:

Each academic year, summer term.

Form of Lesson and Learning:

Lecture course and exercise.
